Bentley Stretches Winning Streak to 5 with 4-3 Win over St. Michael’s

WALTHAM, Mass. – Three St. Michael's College errors in the seventh inning enabled Bentley University to score both the tying and go-ahead runs and the Falcons went on to earn their fifth straight victory, 4-3, in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball Thursday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

Bentley, 10-2 in its last 12 games after extending its winning streak to five, moved to within a game of second place in the Northeast. The Falcons are 19-10 since March 11, 13-6 Northeast and 19-20 overall.

With one out in the seventh, Bentley junior center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./ Pittsford Mendon HS) reached second when his fly ball to left was dropped. A throwing error on the next play allowed him to score, making it a 3-3 game, and two batters later, junior third baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater/East Bridgewater HS) scored the Falcons' fourth run when a ground ball to second was mishandled.

Junior left fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton/Taunton HS), who had three of Bentley's four hits, was involved in the Falcons' first two runs.

Figueira led off the second with a double to left and scored on an opposite field single by senior right fielder Gino Fordiani (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS).

In the fourth, senior first baseman Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) walked and stole second to start the inning. He moved to third on Figueira's single to right and scored on a grounder to second by sophomore DH Charlie Auditore (Walpole/Walpole HS).

St. Michael's (9-26, 5-14 NE10 Northeast) turned the game around with three runs in the sixth. Sophomore third baseman Anthony Azpeiter (Tampa, Fla.) reached on an error to start the inning and later scored the Purple Knights' first run on a single up the middle by senior first baseman Trevor Allen (Dennis). An RBI double by sophomore right fielder Cameron Kroeger (Clearwater, Fla.) tied the game up and an RBI single by sophomore Dante Moran (Saint Petersburg, Fla.) put the visitors in front.

Senior right hander Luke Dawson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS) earned the win with three innings of three-hit scoreless relief. He had five strikeouts with the last one producing the game's final out. Ryan Corriveau (Milton, N.H./Nute HS), also a senior righty, pitched the first six innings for the Falcons and retired 12 straight at one stretch.

The two teams will complete the regular season schedule with a noon doubleheader on DeFelice Field Fri
