WALTHAM, Mass. – Two weeks after authoring a two-hit shutout against the Falcons, senior right hander Cam Monagle (Cambridge) pitched eight scoreless innings to lead Merrimack College to an 11-0 shutout of Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball Wednesday night on DeFelice Field.

The Warriors supported him with a 14-hit attack off eight Falcon pitchers, a different one in every inning, and also took advantage of seven Bentley errors. Merrimack, which batted second as the designated home team, scored four runs in both the first and fourth innings to jump out to a 9-0 lead.

Merrimack's offense was powered by freshman catcher Kurtis Stadnicki (Concord, N.H.), who was 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Junior third baseman Joey Porricelli (Monroe, Conn.) scored four runs and junior shortstop Nick Shumski (Salem, N.H.) had a triple, double, single, three runs scored and two RBI.

Stadnicki's afternoon included an RBI double in the first and an RBI single in the second, fourth and seventh innings. Porricelli only had one single but reached three other times on two walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Monagle scattered six hits and struck out two while improving to 4-0 on the year. Graduate right hander Garrett Hudson (Greenfield) wrapped up the game by pitching the ninth for the Warriors (15-12, 9-3 Northeast-10, 5-1 Northeast).

Bentley's best scoring chance came in the eighth when the Falcons had two runners in scoring position. However, Monagle preserved the shutout by getting an inning-ending fly-out to left.

For the Falcons, senior first baseman Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) had a second-inning double to extend his hitting streak to nine games.

Bentley (9-17, 6-6 NE10, 3-3 Northeast) will continue its nine-game homestand Friday and Saturday with a three-game series against Franklin Pierce.
