Assumption Completes Sweep with 14-4 Victory; Samko Leads Falcons with 3 Hits

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Despite 11 hits, the Bentley University Falcons dropped a 14-4 decision to Assumption College in non-conference college baseball Sunday afternoon at Lake Brantley High School as the Hounds completed a three-game sweep.

Assumption jumped out to a 4-0 start after striking for three runs in the top of the second. Junior designated hitter Connor Wironen (Leominster, Mass.) homered to center and junior right fielder R.J. Libby (Middleton, Mass.), who singled and scored in the first, delivered a two-run double.

Bentley got on the scoreboard in the third on an RBI single through the right side by senior first baseman Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS).

After the undefeated Hounds (6-0) added three runs in the fifth to make it a 7-1 game, Bentley picked up a pair of runs in the sixth. Grad student and second baseman Mike Samko (Arlington, Mass./ BB&N) led  off with a double and scored on the second home run in as many games by junior left fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton, Mass./Taunton HS).

Assumption broke the game open with five runs in the seventh and completed its scoring with two in the ninth. Both junior catcher Derek Adamson (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior left fielder Trevor McQuade (Westwood, Mass.) drove in two runs during the seventh.

Bentley's 11 hits featured three by Samko, who was coming off a four-hit performance in Saturday's game. Figueira, junior catcher Christopher Butler (Danvers, Mass./BB&N)) and sophomore shortstop Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) each had two.

McQuade and Anderson both finished with three RBI for Assumption and they were two of the five Hounds with two hits.

Bentley, 0-9, will return to central Florida for five games, including four against Bridgeport, Mar. 10-14.
