Rollins Completes Series Sweep with 12-1 Win over Bentley

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Junior second baseman Sam Lafontaine (Hudson, Ohio) had a home run and four RBI as Rollins College completed a three-game sweep of Bentley University with a 12-1 win in non-conference college baseball action Sunday afternoon at Alfond Stadium.

The 8-1 Tars, who received at least one hit from everyone in the starting lineup, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and made it a 7-0 game with a five-run second inning. They added to their lead with two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings, and one more in the eighth.

Graduate student and right fielder Kyle Hintz (Viera, Fla.) drove in both first inning runs and five different players picked up an RBI during the big second inning. LaFontaine had a two-run single during the fourth and his two-run homer to right came two innings later.

Four Rollins pitchers combined to limit Bentley to three hits while striking out 11.  Junior righty Garrett Leonard (Fort Mill, S.C.) earned the win following five shutout innings. He accounted for six of his team's strike outs.

Bentley spoiled the shutout bid in the top of the ninth when junior center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) led off with a walk. One out later, senior right fielder Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) drove him in with a double to right center.

LaFontaine and senior shortstop Brendan Brundage (Coconut Creek, Fla.) each had three of Rollins' 15 hits and LaFontaine scored three in addition to driving in four.

Bentley, winless in six games, will return to Florida Mar. 1-3 for a three-game series against Assumption College in Lake Brantley.
