Fast Start Propels Rollins to 9-2 Win over Bentley

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Rollins College Tars scored four times in the first inning and went on to record a 9-2 win over the Bentley University Falcons in non-conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Alfond Stadium.

The Tar offense was powered by junior left fielder Nick Santucci (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore center fielder Cameron Meehan (Orlando, Fla.), who combined for six hits, five runs and five RBI. Both players had three hits, Meehan had three RBI and Santucci scored three times.

Each was a factor during the big first inning. Santucci hit a one-out homer to right center, Meehan had an RBI single, and Meehan scored the final run on a sacrifice fly by senior third baseman Sam LaFontaine (Hudson, Ohio).

In the fifth, Meehan had a two-run double down the left field line and later scored on a double down the right field line by LaFontaine. Those three runs extended the Tars' lead to 7-0.

Both Bentley runs were scored in the seventh inning. After a walk and a throwing error put two Falcons in scoring position, junior third baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater HS)  drove in both with a single to left.

Junior first baseman Ryan Berardino (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) also had two hits for the Falcons, who were outhit 14-5 by the 8-1 Tars.

Bentley (0-5) and Rollins will wrap up the three-game series Sunday at noon.
