Walsh Named Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University graduate student and left hander Evan Walsh (Arlington/ Arlington Catholic HS) has been named the Pitcher of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week following his outstanding performance last Monday in an 18-0 win over Nyack College.

Walsh turned in a complete-game one-hit shutout while walking one and striking out a career-best 12. He faced only the minimum number of batters as both Warrior base runners were erased on double plays.

Walsh has pitched in three games thus far this season, putting up a 1.23 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 14.2 innings. Last season, he was 2-4 for the Falcons with a 4.26 ERA in 11 appearances.

Also recognized by the conference with inclusion on the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll was senior second baseman Mike Samko (Arlington/BB&N).

During a 3-1 week, Samko was 11 for 18 (.611) with five runs scored, five RBI, a double, two walks and a .650 on base percentage. He also handled 21 chances at second base without an error. He was 4-for-4 against Nyack and had two other three-hit games (Concordia, Assumption).

For the season, Samko is hitting .319 with a team-leading 10 RBI.

Bentley, 4-7, will return to Florida this coming weekend for a four-game series with the University of Bridgeport.
