3-Run Grover HR in 9th Helps Bentley Top Saint Anselm, 10-8

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore first baseman Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) drilled a go-ahead three-run homer to right in the ninth and classmate Ryan Corriveau (Milton, N.H./Nute HS) came on for the save as Bentley University posted a 10-8 win over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Park.

Grover's third home run of the spring produced the contest's fourth lead change and followed singles by freshman pinch-hitter Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) and senior third baseman Peter Bocchino (Saugus, Mass./Governor's Academy). It gave him four RBI for the game, which pushed his team-leading total to 20.

Bocchino, a St. Michael's transfer, had his best game as a Falcon, 4 for 5 with three runs scored and a seventh-inning homer that put Bentley up 7-6 at the time.

Corriveau, who entered the game with a runner on first and saw the first batter he faced reach on an error, locked up the win, and his third save, with a fielder's choice and a game-ending double play initiated by freshman third baseman Tom Diskin (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy). He saved the contest for senior lefty Evan Walsh (Arlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic HS), who pitched the seventh and eighth for the Falcons (6-19-1, 4-2-1 NE10 Northeast).

Both teams scored three times in the first inning. For the Falcons, sophomore right fielder Austin Farry (Watertown, Mass./Watertown HS) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, freshman second baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater HS) had an RBI single and senior shortstop Justin Ashworth (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) had a sacrifice fly.

After falling behind 6-3, Bentley tied it up in the fifth with the second of its trio of three-run innings. Grover drew a bases-loaded walk, Ashworth scored on a wild pitch and Bocchino scored on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the seventh, after Bocchino's go-ahead homer in the top of the inning, Saint Anselm (9-19, 2-6 NE10 Northeast) reclaimed the lead on a two-run triple by senior left fielder John Marculitis (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

Eight different Falcons combined for 12 hits, including two by freshman DH Ryan Berardino (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS), who raised his team-leading average to .377.

Saint Anselm, which matched the Falcons in the hit column, was led by senior third baseman Nick Bragole (Newburyport, Mass.), with two hits, two runs scored and three RBI.

The two teams will play the rubber game of the three-game series Monday at Saint Anselm, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 pm.
