Grover Drives in 5 During Bentley’s 17-5 Loss to Saint Anselm

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Bentley University sophomore first baseman Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) hit a third-inning grand slam and drove in all of his team's runs, but that wasn't enough to overcome the seven-run first-inning that Saint Anselm College posted en route a 17-5 non-conference win in college baseball action at Rollins College's Alfond Stadium Wednesday.

The first seven Saint Anselm hitters of the game reached via three walks, two singles, a double and an error as the Hawks jumped out early and gave winning pitcher Andy Williams (Merrimack, N.H.), a junior righty, a commanding lead before he threw his first pitch.

The Hawks (2-6) also had a pair of four-run innings, the first coming in the third to make it 12-1 and the second in the ninth to complete the game's scoring.

Powering the 19-hit attack were a trio of juniors: shortstop Max Wadington (Burlington, Conn.), first baseman Dan Bodi (Westford, Mass.) and left fielder John Marculitis (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Wadington was 5-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI, Bodi drove in five with a pair of doubles, and Marciulitis finished 3-for-6 with four RBI and two doubles.

Grover got the Falcons on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first, his three-bagger to right center scoring freshman center fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton, Mass./Taunton HS), who had doubled.

His grand slam in the third cut the Falcon deficit to 12-5 but those proved to be the final runs of the contest for the 1-9 Falcons.

Figueira, also on base for Grover's blast, finished with three of Bentley's nine hits.

Freshman lefty Lloyd Hill (Milton, Mass./Milton HS) gave the Falcons five solid innings of the relief before running into trouble in the ninth. He finished with nine strikeouts in his 5.2 innings of work.

The two teams will be  back on the Alfond diamond Thursday morning for a 10 am game.
