Rocha & Sullivan Lead Bentley to 5-2 Win at Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Senior catcher Bryan Rocha (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth HS) broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run double and right-hander Bill Sullivan (Carver, Mass./Carver HS), a graduate student, went the distance on the mound as Bentley University gained a split of its two-game series with Pace University with a 5-2 win at Finnerty Field Saturday afternoon.

After Pace (16-9, 4-2 NE-10) knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Bentley reclaimed the lead in its next at bat. First baseman and grad student Ryan O'Connor (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport HS) reached on a one-out single. Freshman right fielder Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) singled down the right field line with two out and sophomore DH Nick Neshe (Waltham, Mass./ Waltham HS) drew a walk to load the bases.

Rocha cleared the bases with his second double of the season splitting the right-center gap, giving the Falcons a 4-1 lead.

Pace got one run back in the bottom of the eighth, but Bentley countered in the ninth. Neshe walked, Rocha sacrificed him to second and sophomore third baseman Mike Samko (Arlington, Mass./ BB&N) doubled to right center, plating Neshe.

Bentley grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third when freshmen left fielder Cameron Cruz (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton HS) led off with a double to left and scored one out later on a double to center by senior second baseman Zachary Littman (Abington, Mass./Abington HS).

Sullivan scattered 11 hits while improving to 2-3 on the season. He issued two walks, struck out five and stranded ten runners on base during his complete game effort. With runners on base, Sullivan yielded only four hits in 15 at bats.

Bentley (7-14, 2-4 NE-10) will remain in the Empire State for a noon doubleheader at Adelphi University Sunday.
