WALTHAM, Mass. – Shortstop Mike Mastroberti (Ramsey, N.J.) tripled in a run and stole home during a two-run first inning, propelling Southern New Hampshire University, the tenth-ranked team in Division II, to a 6-2 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball Tuesday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

Southern New Hampshire, which completed a three-game sweep of the Falcons, improved to 18-2 overall and 4-0 in the division. Bentley dropped to 5-13 overall and 0-3 Northeast.

Sophomore left fielder Sean Webster (Boston, Mass.) led off the game with a bloop double to second. After a ground out moved him to third, he scored on Mastroberti's triple to the left-center gap. Mastroberti made it a 2-0 game on a straight steal of home as he eluded the catcher's tag.

The Penmen extended their lead to 4-0 with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth, capitalizing on an infield single and three Bentley errors.

Bentley got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning. Sophomore third baseman Mike Samko (Arlington/BB&N) led off with an infield single, advanced on singles by sophomore DH Nick Neshe (Waltham/Waltham HS) and first baseman Ryan O'Connor (Newburyport/Newburyport HS), and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior shortstop Justin Ashworth (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS).

After SNHU picked up insurance runs in the seventh and eighth, Samko scored his second run of the afternoon in the bottom of the eighth. He walked to lead off the inning and eventually scored on a ground ball out by O'Connor.

Junior righty Alex Person (Foxboro) earned the win for SNHU following seven innings of work in which he allowed six hits and struck out six.

Junior lefty Evan Walsh (Arlington/Arlington Catholic HS) took the loss for Bentley, despite striking out eight in his six innings on the mound.

Samko was the only Bentley player to have two hits, and SNHU received two apiece from Webster and junior second baseman Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.).

Bentley will look to get back on track Wednesday afternoon with a 3:30 pm game at Stonehill College.
