9th-Inning Run Gives Lueders and Bentley a 3-2 Win over LIU Post

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Senior left fielder Sean Keady (Norwood, Mass./Norwood HS) singled in the game-winning run in the top of the ninth and senior right-hander Scott Lueders (Mansfield, Mass./ Newton South HS) pitched a complete game as Bentley University edged LIU Post, 3-2, in non-conference college baseball Friday afternoon at the LIU Post Field.

Keady, who was on base in four of five plate appearances with three walks in addition to the single, stole two bases to boost his school record total to 100. He's one of just three active Division II players who have reached the century mark.

With two outs in the ninth, sophomore catcher  Bryan Rocha (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth HS) singled to left on an 0-2 pitch. A wild pitch and a passed ball allowed him to move to third and he scored on Keady's single through the left side on the ninth pitch of the at bat.

Lueders gave up a lead-off walk in the ninth, but after the runner was sacrificed to third, he struck out the next two batters to lock up his first win of the season. Lueders finished with a six-hitter with four strikeouts and two walks.

Bentley 3-7) grabbed an early lead when Keady led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a single to left by freshman second baseman Burton Deady (Andover, Mass./Andover HS).

After the Pioneers (4-4) scored single runs in the second and third to take a 2-1 lead, Bentley picked up the equalizer in the fourth. Senior DH Dante Padovani (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield HS) delivered a two-out single to right, bringing in senior shortstop Will Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y./ Locust Valley HS), who opened the inning with a bunt single.

Over the next four innings, the best scoring opportunity came in the Bentley sixth when the Falcons had runners on second and third with only one out. However, sophomore righty Chris Anderson (West Islip, N.Y.) escaped unscathed following a strikeout and ground out.

Bentley's eight hits included two by junior center fielder Mike Muir (Bridgewater, Mass./ Xaverian Bros. HS).

The two teams will meet against Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 12 noon.
