WINTER PARK, Fla. – Single runs in each of the last three innings lifted the University of Bridgeport to a 3-2 win over Bentley University in the first of a three-game non-conference college baseball series at Rollins College's Alfond Stadium Thursday afternoon.

Bentley grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, with that lead holding up until the seventh. Senior left fielder Sean Keady (Norwood, Mass./Norwood HS) led off the game with a triple to left center and he scored on the very next pitch when junior center fielder Mike Muir (Bridgewater, Mass./ Xaverian Bros. HS) doubled to center.

After the Purple Knights (4-6) evened the game in the seventh, the Falcons answered back in the top of the eighth. Sophomore catcher Bryan Rocha (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth HS) reached on an error, took second on a wild pitch, moved to third on an infield single by senior third baseman Nate Witkowski (Melrose, Mass./Malden Catholic HS) and scored on a double play.

The lead didn't last long as senior DH Brock Roggie (Lowville, N.Y.) drew a two-out bases-loaded walk after Bridgeport had gotten a pair of singles and a walk earlier in the eighth.

Bentley stranded a runner on third in the top of the ninth and Bridgeport capitalized on mistakes to claim the win in the bottom of the frame. Senior center fielder Jesse Solar (Marlton, N.J.) reached on a passed ball after striking out and advanced to third on a fielding error and a wild pitch. Freshman Casey McCone made it hurt as he singled to right center to bring in Solar with the walk-off run.

Bentley outhit Bridgeport 10-7 with Keady, Muir, senior shortstop Will Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley HS) and freshman second baseman Burton Deady (Andover, Mass./Andover HS) all having a pair.

The Falcons, 1-6, received a solid pitching performance from senior righty Scott Lueders (Mansfield, Mass./Newton South HS), who blanked Bridgeport over the first six innings and finished with six strikeouts. In seven-plus innings, he was charged with five hits and two runs.

The two teams will be back at Rollins for an 11 am game on Friday and will wrap up the series with a 3 pm start at the University of Tampa Saturday.
