Bio

The 2023-24 academic year will mark the 30th for Charlie Carkin as part of Bentley University's sports medicine staff. His primary responsibilities include development, implementation and supervision of strength programs for the college’s intercollegiate teams.

Carkin, a 1992 graduate of UMass-Boston with a Bachelor of Science in physical education, has been a member of the Bentley athletic training staff since then. His primary responsibilties are serving as athletic trainer for the men's lacrosse team and working with Bentley's varsity athletic teams in developing and implementing year-round strength programs.

Carkin is certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association and licensed in Massachusetts as an athletic trainer. He is also certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a certified strength and conditioning coach.

From 1983-87, Carkin served in the U.S. Army as a medical specialist, with his duties including emergency medical care, triage, transport and follow-up care.

Carkin resides in his hometown of Lowell with his wife, Donna. They have three adult children, Christine, Melissa and Charlie, Jr. Charlie Jr. was a defenseman on the Mercyhurst College hockey team from 2009-13.
