Fehskens & Newman Tabbed as Bentley Women’s Cross Country Captains

WALTHAM, Mass. – Seniors Paige Fehskens (Wareham/Wareham HS) and Abbie Newman (Hanson/Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS) have been named captains of the 2019 Bentley University women's cross country team, coach Kevin Curtin announced.

"Paige and Abbie will complement each other well as captains," said Curtin. They're both hard workers who have excelled here academically and athletically and are the embodiment of leading by example."

Fehskens was Bentley's number one finisher in all 12 meets the team competed in during the last two seasons. She earned USTFCCCA All-East Region honors last November with a 24th-place finish in the NCAA Division II regional championships, was a third-team All-Northeast-10 honoree in 2017 and finished 25th in the conference championships a year ago.

Fehskens, who spent the spring semester studying in Madrid, was voted to the Google Cloud Division II Academic All-District track and cross country team in May.

Newman ran to a 75th-place finish in last year's Northeast-10 Championships, covering the 6,000-meter course in 25:06.36. She was also 105th in the NCAA Regional, finishing in 25:55.20.

Last spring, Newman was 12th in the 1500 at the NE10 championships, her time of 4:54.54 a personal best.

Bentley opens its season Saturday at the Jim Sheehan Invitational in Leominster.
