Fehskens & Morena Lead Bentley to 2nd Place Finish in Kirsh Cup

HOPKINTON, N.H. – Led by freshman Paige Fehskens (Wareham, Mass./Wareham HS) and senior Julia Morena (Boylston, Mass./Tananto Reg. HS), the Bentley University women's cross country team finished second among 11 teams during the Bruce Kirsh Cup at the State Fairgrounds, the site of next month's NCAA East Regional, Saturday morning.

Fehskens, the meet's highest finishing freshman, covered the 5,000-meter course in 19:33.8 to place sixth among 136 competitors. Morena followed in ninth with her time exactly 20 seconds back of Fehskens.

Four other Falcons cracked the top 30 with senior Mary Leach (Peabody, Mass./Peabody HS) 23rd (20:22.9), senior Katie Burke (Braintree, Mass./Braintree HS) 27th (20:37.1), junior Courtney Loughnane (Canton, Mass./Canton HS) 28th (20:38.2) and freshman Abbie Newman (Hanson, Mass./ Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS) 29th (20:39.3).

Bentley, with a score of 85 points, trailed only Merrimack College (65) in the team standings. Also cracking the top five were Adelphi University (120), The College of Saint Rose (121) and Southern Connecticut State (124).

Rebecca Celorio, running unattached, was the first to the finish line in 18:34.1. Natasha Fitzpatrick of Southern Connecticut State, the first collegian, was second in 18:59.3.

Bentley will be in Louisville, Ky. next Saturday for the Trevecca Division II Showcase.
