Impressive Debut for Newman & Fehskens During Shacklette Invitational
WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshmen Abbie Newman (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS) and Paige Fehskens (Wareham, Mass./Wareham HS) turned in impressive collegiate debuts while competing for the Bentley University women's cross country team Sunday morning in the Shacklette Invitational at Saint Anselm College.
Newman was third overall with a 5,000-meter time of 20:20 and Fehskens was the next runner across the finish line, recording a 20:27 clocking.
Bentley's next two finishers were also from the Class of 2020 as five of the six runners entered by coach Kevin Curtin were freshmen. Abby Steinour (Lititz, Pa./Warwick HS) was ninth (21:28) and Kaileigh Wimert (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) was 11th, ten seconds later.
As a team, Bentley was third of four as the Falcons were edged by Saint Anselm by a single point, 45-46. St. Michael's captured team honors with a 35.
Next up for the Falcons is the Bruce Kirsch Cup at the Hopkinton (N.H.) State Fairgrounds Sept. 17.
