Morena Leads Bentley Women during Roy Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Junior Julia Morena (Boylston, Mass./Tahanto Reg. HS) was the top finisher for the Bentley University women's cross country team during the nationally renowned Roy Griak Invitational, contested Saturday morning at the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course.

Morena was 66th overall in the Maroon Division II category as she covered the 6,000-meter course in 24:48.3. A total of 355 runners participated in the event.

Bentley's next two across the line were junior Katie Burke (Braintree, Mass./Braintree HS) and sophomore Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS). Burke was 142nd overall in 25:56.8 and Bartolotta crossed 12 places later, putting up a time of 26:06.4.

As a team, Bentley was 20th of 35 overall with a score of 663 points. Among those finishing in front of the Falcons were four nationally-ranked teams (No. 4 Minnesota-Duluth, No. 6 Augustana, No. 19 Winona State, No. 20 Northern Michigan) and two club teams.

Minnesota-Duluth edged Northern Michigan for team honors, 83-93, and the individual champion was Alexis Zeis of the University of Mary. She had a winning margin of 12.6 seconds with her time 22:13.6.

Bentley is next in action in two weeks when the New Englands are contested at Franklin Park.
