Bentley Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award for 6th Straight Year

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's volleyball team is one of 141 Division II programs from across the country that earned an AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 academic year. It's the sixth straight year that the Falcons have been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Over 1,100 teams, from all levels of volleyball, received the award this year. It honors collegiate and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the academic year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average.

Twelve of the 13 players on the 2018 Bentley roster finished the academic year with cumulative GPA's of 3.0 or better, with seven at 3.5 or better and four others with at least a 3.20 GPA. Coach Joey Pacis' team had a 3.54 GPA during the fall semester and was just shy of that mark, at 3.52, during the spring.

Among the team's academic standouts was rising senior Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./ Francis Parker HS), a two-time Academic All-Northeast-10 honoree.

The Falcons will open their season Sept. 6-7 with the California State San Marcos Cougar Classic. The home opener will be the following weekend when Bentley hosts the Sandy Hoffman Memorial.
