Molloy Aces Bentley in 4

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Molloy College freshman Nicole Wagner (Floral Park, N.Y.) served four of her team's 14 aces, helping the Lions to a four-set victory over Bentley University in non-conference women's volleyball Friday evening at Quealy Gymnasium. The scores were 25-15, 21-25, 25-17 and 25-22.

In the clinching set, after a pair of attack errors gave Bentley an 18-17 lead, Molloy scored the next four points to take a lead it would never relinquish. The Falcons pulled back within one a couple times but the comeback bid ended on a match-ending kill by junior Devon Hagerstrom (Bethpage, N.Y).

Junior co-captain Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) led Bentley with 10 kills, a .571 hitting percentage and three blocks in the first three sets. Eight of those kills came in the only set the Falcons won, the second.

Bentley (7-11) also received 19 kills from junior Emily Barthelmes (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson HS) and seven kills, 17 digs and two aces from sophomore Mallory Burbage (Bow Mar, Colo./Littleton HS),

The attack for 11-5 Molloy included 14 kills from sophomore Kacey Affrunti (Levittown, N.Y.), a dozen from junior Carly Banks (Camas, Wash.) and 36 assists by junior Sophia Smith (Georgetown, Texas).

Bentley will remain on Long Island for matches against LIU Post and American International on Sunday. Action at LIU Post will get underway at noon.
