Burbage & Campbell Shine as Bentley Gains Split of Day 1 of Post Eagles Invitational

WATERBURY, Conn. – Sophomore Mallory Burbage (Bow Mar, Colo./Littleton HS) recorded the first 20-kill match of her career and senior setter Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North HS) posted a 43-assist, 13-dig double-double as the Bentley University women's volleyball team recorded a 3-1 win over Post University late Saturday evening in the Post Eagles Invitational at the Drubner Center. The scores were 25-18, 21-25, 25-22 and 25-20.

The victory came after the Falcons were swept by Daemen College, 28-26, 25-11 and 25-20 earlier in the day.

Bentley put away the nightcap after trailing 9-2 early in the fourth. Five straight points brought the Falcons within two, 10-8, and they took their first lead, 15-14, on a kill by sophomore Kirsten Segaline (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS).

Burbage hit .302 and also helped the Falcons with a dozen kills and two blocks. Segaline followed with 15 kills and senior middle Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) hit .350 with ten kills, three saves and three blocks.

Campbell complemented her 43 assists by making five kills in seven swings. The Falcons also received 14 digs from junior libero Emily Barthelmes (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson HS).

Earlier in the day,  junior Cristina Apostol (Bucharest, Romania) hit .611 with 11 kills, made five blocks and also accounted for five of the Wildcats' nine aces to lead Daemen (3-6) past the Falcons.

Daemen also received a strong effort from sophomore Tirzan Peters (Amherst, N.H.), who finished with 13 kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the straight set victory.

Burbage paced the Falcons with nine kills and Campbell provided 22 assists, five kills and eight digs.

Bentley, 2-6, will be back in action in the Post Eagles Invitational Sunday with matches against New York Tech (11:30 am) and Caldwell (5:30 pm).
