Bentley Takes Care of Pace in 3; Falcons Move into 3rd-Place Tie

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) had 13 kills and three aces, and sophomore Dani Milner (Plano, Texas/The Greenhill School) provided her 15th double-double of the season, as Bentley University swept past Pace University in three in a key Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball match Friday night at the Dana Center.

The 25-13, 25-14, 25-17 victory, coupled with a Stonehill win over Adelphi, boosted Bentley to 9-4 conference (18-9 overall) and forged a two-way tie for third in the NE10 heading into Saturday's regular season finale. Coach Joey Pacis' team will host Adelphi at 1 pm with the winner assured of the third seed in next week's conference championships.

Bentley was in control almost from the start with the only exception coming in the third set. Pace (15-16, 7-6 NE10) vaulted out to a 7-1 lead in that one, but the Falcons used an 11-2 spurt to open up a 12-9 advantage.

Bentley closed with a 4-0 run, including an ace from senior Celia Cristofoli (Fort Collins, Ohio/ Hudson (Ohio) HS) for match point and a kill by Milner to lock up the victory.

The Falcons had a solid hitting night, finishing at .303 while limiting the Setters to .069. Milner swung at a .345 success rate while turning in 14 kills and 11 digs. Kelly matched the Falcons' hitting performance as a team, and sophomore Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Frances Parker School) had five kills in 11 attacks.

Cristofoli led Bentley with 13 digs and sophomore setter Xio Lopp (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead HS) finished with 28 assists and three kills in as many swings.

Saturday's match will be preceded by Senior Day festivities.
