Bentley Aces Stonehill for 7th Win in Last 8 Matches

EASTON, Mass. – The Bentley University Falcons served 16 aces, their most since the 2005 season, and hit a sizzling .609 in a dominating third set to defeat Stonehill College, 3-1, in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball at Merkert Gymnasium Tuesday evening.

After dropping the opening set 25-22, Bentley stormed back to take the next three and secure their seventh win in their last eight matches. A 25-17 win in the second tied the match, a 25-7 victory in the third put the visitors in front and the Falcons closed out the match 25-20.

Four different Falcons recorded three aces, including senior outside hitter Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS), whose night also included 14 kills and a dozen kills, the double-double her eighth of the season. Also with three aces were junior defensive specialist Isabella Perez (Lafayette, Calif./Carondelet HS), senior libero Celia Cristofoli (Fort Collins, Colo./Hudson (Ohio) HS) and sophomore outside hitter Dani Milner (Plano, Texas/The Greenhill School).

Cristofoli also had 21 digs for the Falcons and Milner helped with eight kills, a total matched by sophomore middle hitter Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Frances Parker School), and ten digs.

Bentley also received a strong effort from its sophomore setter Xio Lopp (Kalispell, Mont./ Flathead HS). She contributed 33 assists, 16 digs, five blocks and a pair of aces.

In the pivotal third set, Bentley totaled 15 kills and only one error in 23 swings. Kelly had four of the 15, sophomore Caitlin Corcoran (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley HS) had three and the Falcons shot out to leads of 5-1, 11-2 and 18-3.

Bentley improved to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in the NE10 while Stonehill dropped to 4-10 (1-3 NE10).

The Falcons are also on the road Friday night, playing a 7 pm match at Southern Connecticut.
