Bruno & Kelly Play Key Roles as Bentley Sweeps Past Merrimack, 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Led by sophomore middle blocker Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Frances Parker School) and senior outside hitter Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS), Bentley University took care of Merrimack College in three sets in non-conference women's volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center. The scores were 25-17, 25-16 and 25-16.

Bentley, with its sixth win in its last seven matches, improved to 11-5 overall and 4-1 NE10. Merrimack, on the other hand, dropped to 3-12 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Bruno hit .556 with 10 kills and no errors, and also gave the Falcons three aces and four blocks. Kelly put up a double-double (.13 kills, 11 digs) while hitting at a .344 success rate.

Setting duties for Bentley were shared by sophomore Xio Lopp (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead HS) and junior Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rocks North HS). Each played in two sets with Campbell amassing 19 assists and Lopp 16.

Bentley, which trailed only once in the match (1-0 to start the second), hit .223 while limiting Merrimack to 24 kills and 23 errors.

The Falcons will begin the month of October Tuesday at Stonehill.
