Bentley Will Pay Tribute to Sandy Hoffman Friday with Banner Unveiling

WALTHAM, Mass. – Prior to Friday night's women's volleyball match against St. Michael's College, Bentley University will pay tribute to the woman who built and led the program for more than three decades, the late Sandy Hoffman, with the ceremony beginning at 6 pm.

Hoffman, who fought a long and courageous battle with adrenal cortical carcinoma before passing away in August 2015, was inducted into the American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame eight months before her death. A banner commemorating her induction will be unveiled during Friday's event.

Hoffman, a 2015 inductee into the Bentley Athletic Hall of Fame and a 2016 inductee into the Northeast-10 Conference Hall of Fame, was the Falcons' head women's volleyball coach from 1982 until illness forced her to step down before the 2014 season. During that span, she took a program from its infancy to one that was one of the most successful in the Northeast-10 and region.

Hoffman led Bentley to 758 wins during her 32 seasons with her tenure including 11 NE10 regular season titles (nine outright, two shared), nine conference tournament championships and 11 NCAA tournament berths. She was selected as the NE10 Coach of the Year eight times, the most recent coming in 2013, and that award is now named in her memory.

The AVCA Hall of Fame was created in 2003 with Hoffman one of only 77 who have received the honor.

Following the match with St. Michael's, a reception will be held in the Carleton Room.
