WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Jaci Buscher (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain HS) put down 12 kills and served six of her team's dozen aces as Bentley University swept past Chestnut Hill College, 3-0, in the final match of the Bentley Invitational Volleyball Tournament Saturday night at the Dana Center. Scores were 25-12, 25-12 and 25-20 with only two lead changes in total.

The Falcons vaulted out to an 11-2 start in the opening set and were never threatened. Junior forward and All-Tournament Team selection Lauren Van Buren (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa HS) registered five of her nine kills in the set and Buscher helped out with three kills and back-to-back acers.

Bentley never trailed in the second after tallying the first four points. Buscher and junior middle Ashley Latimer (Croton on Hudson, N.Y./Croton Harmon HS) combined for nine of Bentley's 11 kills in the set and freshman setter Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North HS) helped with ten assists and three aces.

The third was a closer battle but the Falcons maintained the lead after 3-2. Kills by Van Buren accounted for the team's final three points.

Campbell finished with 29 assists and four aces, and junior defensive specialist Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) had a team-best ten digs. Nine Falcon blocks, including five by Latimer, helped hold the 0-4 Griffins to a negative hitting percentage (-.048).

Despite 10 kills by Van Buren and 16 digs from senior libero Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison HS), Bentley fell in three to the University of Minnesota Crookston in the morning match with the scores 25-15, 25-17 and 25-23.

Bentley was up 12-11 in the opening set before the Golden Eagles took off on a 14-3 run to prevail. It was another strong finish for UMC as this time they closed with an 11-3 burst after it was tied at 14.

In the third, Bentley overcame a 18-12 deficit with six straight points, a 6-0 run that included two Van Buren kills evened the set at 18. It was still tied at 23 when the Golden Eagles used a kill from sophomore Kelci Green (Anoka, Minn.) and a Falcon attack error to wrap up the victory.

Sophomore Maggie Perrel (New Germany, Minn.) powered UMC with 15 kills and a .407 hitting percentage, and junior setter Sierra Trost (Ham Lake, Minn.) provided 31 assistrs and 17 digs. The Golden Eagles served 14 aces, including six  by sophomore Kaycie Hagen (Savage, Minn.).

Bentley, which finished the season-opening tournament at 1-3, is back in action this coming weekend when it will play four matches in the Emerald Bay Hotel- Javalina Invitational at the University of Texas A&M-Kingsville.
