Segal & Metzger Named Bentley Volleyball Captains

WALTHAM, Mass. – Seniors Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison HS) and Stephanie Metzger (Georgetown, Texas/Liberty Hill HS) have been named the captains of the 2015 Bentley University women's volleyball team, head coach Joey Pacis announced.

"We are excited to have both Jessica and Stephanie serving as co-captains for the upcoming season as selected by their teammates and coaches," said Pacis. "We are confident that they will continue the Bentley volleyball tradition by leading by example and working hard."

Both players are expected to play significant roles for the 2015 Falcons with Segal taking over at the team's setter and Metzger expected to start at middle blocker.

Segal, a veteran of 333 career sets, averaged 2.52 digs and 0.95 assists last fall while helping the Falcons to a share of the Northeast-10 regular season championship and the semifinals of the NCAA Division II East Regional. She had 19 kills in two of the Falcons' biggest wins of 2014, five-setters at New Haven and Adelphi.

"Jessica has seen significant playing time over the last two years as our starting defensive specialist.  Her presence and confidence on the court will guide our new squad as we build team chemistry," said the Falcons' second-year head coach.

Metzger has seen only limited action during her first three years but that is expected to change this year following the graduation of six players and her move from the right side.

"Stephanie is unequivocally the most team-oriented member on our team," praised Pacis. "This trait is present during team practices, matches and meetings.  We expect that Stephanie will keep the team focused this season while pushing to attain our goals."

The Falcons open the season Friday and Saturday with their own Bentley Invitational. Next weekend, Metzger and her teammates will travel to her home state for a tournament at Texas A&M Kingsville.
