Saint Rose Sweeps Bentley out of 1st Place, Ends Falcons’ NE-10 Win Streak at 8

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Kelsey Lace (Glendale, R.I.) had 11 kills and her team combined for 10 aces as the College of Saint Rose knocked Bentley University out of a share of first place in the Northeast-10 Conference with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-11 victory in women's college volleyball Friday night at the Dana Center.

Bentley, which had won eight straight conference matches, entered the game in a three-way tie for first in the loss column in the NE-10. The loss dropped the team into a tie for third place and the Falcons will now need a win in Saturday's regular season finale (vs. Lemoyne, home at 1 pm) to assure themselves of a home match in next week's NE-10 championships.

The Falcons, who were number four in this week's NCAA Division II East Region rankings, never got it going against the number eight Golden Knights. They gave up an 11-2 run at the end of the first set, were outscored 13-4 to finish the second and fell behind early in the third, never making a run.

Lace hit .529 for Saint Rose (17-7, 9-4) with only one error in her 19 swings, and sophomore Maryellen Devic (Orchard Park, N.Y.) followed with ten kills. Sophomore Erica Ziskin (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and senior Ariana Wilson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) each had three saves and sophomore Jennifer Gundrum (East Meadow, N.Y.) was part of four blocks.

Senior Kaleigh Sullivan (Naples, Fla./Harley School (N.Y.)) led Bentley (15-10, 10-3) with six kills and sophomore Ashley Latimer (Croton on Hudson, N.Y./Croton Harmon HS) had five, along with three blocks (all coming in the opening set).

Saturday's game with Le Moyne will be Senior Day with the Falcons' six fourth-year players being honored pregame.
