Buscher Named NE-10 Molten Volleyball Player of the Week; Colasanti Also Honored
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior outside hitter Jaci Buscher (Lakewood, Colo./ Green Mountain HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Molten Women's Volleyball Player of the Week following her outstanding performance during the Wilmington Regional Invitational over the weekend.
Three other Falcons, all seniors, also received recognition for their efforts over the week with Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) the NE-10 Molten Libero of the Week and both Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) and Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School) named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Buscher powered Bentley to a 4-0 weekend at the Wilmington Invitational, including wins over 4-0 Millersville and perennial regional power Dowling, by averaging 3.86 kills, 3.21 digs and 0.43 blocks with a .236 hitting percentage. Her week featured Bentley's first 20-20 performance in a dozen years as she put up a career-high 20 kills, a career-best 26 digs and three blocks in a five-setter against Dowling. She also had a double-double, 16 kills and 10 digs, in a four-setter against Wilmington, and 11 kills with a .474 hitting percentage vs. Millersville.
An outstanding student who was named to last year's Academic All-Northeast-10 team, Buscher is averaging 2.96 kills and 2.92 digs for the 4-4 Falcons, who were selected to finish second in the conference in the preseason coaches' poll. Last year, she produced 2.44 kills and 2.94 digs per set.
Colasanti totaled 85 digs, an average of 5.67 per set, in the four wins. Included was a career-high 33 in a 3-1 win over Wilmington, and 21 against both Holy Family and Dowling. Averaging 4.78 digs this season, she ranks fourth on the program's all-time list with 1,359.
Tator, a second-team All-Northeast-10 pick last year, averaged 10.27 assists, 3.13 digs, 0.53 kills and 0.33 blocks during the tournament. Included were three double-doubles as she recorded 47 assists and 13 digs against Wilmington, 31 and 12 against Holy Family and 44 and 17 vs. Dowling. During her career, the three-year captain has amassed 2,235 assists, ranking eighth in school history.
Froehlich averaged 3.54 kills and 1.23 digs during the Delaware trip while hitting .274. Her 19 kills in a five-setter against Dowling was a career-best, and she hit .600 (9-0-15) in a 3-0 sweep of previously-unbeaten Millersville. She's second on the team in kills, averaging 2.71.
Bentley hosts Saint Anselm tonight in the team's home and Northeast-10 opener.
