Bentley Wins Twice During Day One of Wilmington Regional Invitational; Buscher Shines in Both

NEWARK, Del. – Behind strong efforts from a number of players, the Bentley University women's volleyball team collected its first two wins of the season Friday evening during the Wilmington Regional Invitational. The Falcons handed Millersville University its first loss of the year, prevailing 3-0, and recorded a 3-1 win over Wilmington University.

Bentley took down previously 4-0 Millersville 27-25, 25-22 and 25-16, and followed that with the victory over the Wildcats. After splitting the first two sets (25-23, 20-25), the Falcons never trailed in the final two. They took the lead in the match with a 25-22 win in the third set and closed it out with a 25-16 decision in the fourth, a set that saw them jump out to a 9-1 start.

Junior Jaci Buscher (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain HS) hit .474 against Millersville with a team-high 11 kills, along with seven digs and two blocks. Senior Tatiana Froehlich (Newton, Mass./ Newton North HS) also had a strong hitting match, swinging at a .600 success rate with nine kills and no errors in 15 attacks.

Senior setter Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School) amassed 32 assists and senior libero Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) provided ten digs and three aces.

Bentley hit .315 against the Marauders and had ten blocks. Millersville, on the other hand, hit only .140, including .080 in the second set and .000 in the third.

Against Wilmington, Buscher and Froehlich again topped the Falcons in kills, with 16 and 14, respectively. Sophomore Ashley Latimer (Croton on Hudson, N.Y./Croton Harmon HS) followed with 11 kills and four blocks, both numbers career-bests.

Colasanti established a new career-high with 33 digs and Tator notched a double-double, 47 assists and 13 digs.  

The tournament continues on Saturday with Bentley (2-4) facing Holy Family at noon and regional power Dowling College at 4 pm.
