Bentley Extends Streak to 3 with 3-0 Sweep of Saint Anselm

WALTHAM, Mass. – With a different player leading the team in kills in each set and freshman setter Kyana Miller (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Acad.) providing 31 assists, Bentley University topped Saint Anselm College, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Tuesday evening in the Dana Center. The Falcons took the first and third sets by identical 25-21 scores, with a 25-17 sandwiched in between.

Senior co-captain Grace Conner (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) had five kills in six swings in first set, sophomore Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) made five in the second and sophomore Kelsey Buckner (San Marino, Calif./San Marino HS) picked up seven of her team-high nine in the final set.

The opening set was the tightest of the three with 13 ties and nine lead changes before Bentley closed with four straight points. Conner was instrumental in that closing spurt with two kills and a block assist.

Bentley ran off seven in a row to open a 16-7 lead in the second, and finished with back-to-back kills by junior Ashley Ahearn (Marshfield/Marshfield HS) and Froehlich.

Miller amassed 12 assists in the final set, which ended on a Buckner kill.

In addition to the nine kills from Buckner, Bentley received eight, with a .429 hitting percentage, from Conner and seven from Froehlich, who served three of the team's seven aces. Sophomore Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) had a team-best 11 digs, two more than Buckner, and sophomore Simone Silvera (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) had three blocks.

Saint Anselm, which dropped to 5-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference, finished with one more attack error than kills (22), hitting -.009 for the match.

The win was the third straight for the Falcons, who improved to 6-9 overall and evened their NE-10 record at 2-2. Bentley will spend the weekend in south Florida, playing four times in a tournament at Palm Beach Atlantic.
