Mattson Captures NE10 Championship & Breaks School Record during NE10 Championships

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Bentley University senior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./ Smithfield HS) turned in an outstanding performance during the two-day Northeast-10 Conference Women's Track and Field Championships, which concluded Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University.

On Friday, Mattson captured her first career NE10 championship by edging SNHU's two-sport standout Kylie Lorenzen by a quarter-inch with a distance of 18 feet, four-and-a-half inches. She became the first Falcon women to earn an outdoor conference championship since Caitlin Fahey in 2013.

Mattson finished second by the same margin on Saturday in the triple jump but broke her own school record for the fourth straight week. Her NCAA provisional-qualifying jump of 40 feet, one-half inch broke the mark she set a week ago by nine-and-a-half inches and elevated her from 31st to 18th on the NCAA performance list.

Bentley's other top-ten performance came in the 10,000 meters with freshman Samantha Bilodeau (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Reg. HS) placing tenth in 40:03.68. That improved on her previous personal best by nearly a minute and moved her to sixth on the program's all-time list.

The Falcons also had four 12th-place finishes, including junior Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton, Mass./Narragansett Reg. HS) in both the 100 (12.71) and the 200 (26.38).

Junior Abbbie Newman (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS) was 12th in the 1500 with a PR of 4:54.68 and sophomore Sydney Hurwitz (Newton, Mass./Newton North HS) set a PR (15.99) while finishing 12th in the 100 hurdles.

Bentley, with 18 points, finished 11th among 12 teams in the championships. Stonehill College edged Assumption College for first, 185-169.

The next action for the Falcons is Thursday when Mattson will compete in a meet at Army West Point.
