Mattson Breaks School Record Again; Also Finishes 2nd in Long Jump

EASTON, Mass. – Bentley University senior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) tuned up for the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships by breaking her own school record with a winning time in the triple jump and placing second in the long jump.

Mattson broke the triple jump record for the third time in three weeks with her jump of 39 feet, 3 inches bettering her previous performances of 38'3.25" set at the Triton Invitational in San Diego and 38'9" at the Northeastern Carisella Invitational last Saturday. In addition, her effort in the triple jump provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Division II Championships.

Mattson exceeded her own school record in the long jump with a distance of 19'3.5". However, it won't go down in the books since it was wind-aided. Twenty-one student-athletes competed in the event and Mattson finished second.

Mattson also helped Bentley take sixth place in the 4x100 relay with a 50.81. That foursome also included sophomore Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS), junior Domininque Balzora-Rivert (Templeton/Narragansett Reg. HS) and junior Chantel Lewis (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science and Math).

Hurwitz set a new personal best of 17'2.25" while taking eighth in the long jump and Balzora-Rivert's 33'5.75" was good for eighth in the triple jump.

In the 5,000, freshman Samantha Bilodeau (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Reg. HS) was seventh with her 19:04.18 improving on her previous best by 23 seconds.

In the team standings, Bentley was ninth in a 12-team field with 25 points.

The Northeast-10 Championships will be Friday and Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University.
