Balzora-Rivert & Mattson Break School Records on West Coast

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Two Bentley University women's outdoor track and field records fell on Saturday during the Triton Invitational at the University of San Diego with junior Dominique Balzora-Rivert (Templeton, Mass./Narragansett Reg. HS) denting the record book for the first time as an individual and senior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) once again making a change.

Balzora-Rivert, who had previously come within a hundredth-of-a-second of the record Kristen Godfrey had owned since 2003, ran the 100 meters in 12.66 seconds. That improved on Godfrey's longtime mark by 0.14 seconds. Balzora-Rivert, who had previously been part of a Bentley record in the 4x100 relay, finished 36th of 66 in the event.

Balzora-Rivert's trip to California also included running the 200 in 26.64 seconds (61st of 97) and clearing 32 feet, 7 inches in the triple jump (28th of 31).

Mattson improved on the record she set in the triple jump back in 2017 by 10 inches with a distance of 38'3.25". Remarkably, it was the 33rd time in her career that Mattson has made a change to the records. In the event, she placed sixth among 31 competitors. It also elevated her to second on the Northeast-10 Conference performance list.

Mattson also ran the conference's second fastest 400 meter time of the season, 57.14, while finishing 11th of 50 and was 12th of 56 in the long jump (18'2.75").

It was a split-squad Saturday for the Falcons with members of the team also competing in the Southern New Hampshire Relays in Manchester, N.H.

The performances there were led by freshman Samantha Bilodeau (New Ipswich, N.H./ Mascenic Reg. HS), who returned to her home state and finishing fifth among 55 in the mile (5:29.77).

Next Saturday, Bentley will be at MIT for the Sean Collier Invitational.
