Mattson, Hurwitz Break Records for 2nd Straight Day

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) and sophomore Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS) continued to rewrite the Bentley University women's indoor track and field record book on Saturday with each breaking a record for the second straight day. Saturday's records came during the Gordon Kelly Invitational at MIT.

Mattson, who broke the 400 meter record Friday at Boston University, broke her own triple jump record, improving on the mark she set at last week's New England Championships by four and three-quarter inches. She posted a jump of 37 feet, 5.75 inches to place first among 25 competitors.

This marked the eighth time this season that Mattson has broken a school record that she already held.

Mattson also took first, among a field of 25, in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 3.25 inches.

Hurwitz broke the 60 hurdle record for the second time in as many days and the third time this season while placing second among 24. Her time of 9.39 inches was a hundredth of a second better than the 9.40 she recorded on Friday.

Hurwitz also finished third of 36 in the long jump with her distance of 17 feet, three-quarter inches a personal best by three inches. It ranks fourth on Bentley's all-time list in the event.

Also in the triple, junior Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton/Narragansett Reg. HS) was sixth of 25 after clearing 34 feet, 4.25 inches.

Next Friday and Saturday, Bentley will be at Smith College in Northampton for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships.
