2 More School-Record Breaking Performances for Mattson; Hergott Earns All-New England Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – Bentley University senior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) continued an outstanding indoor season by twice breaking one of her own school records and earning All-New England honors Saturday during day two of the New England Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The two records, in the 500 meters and the triple jump, came within a half-hour of each other and gave her three school record-breaking performances in about 20 hours. For the season, she's improved on one of her own school records six times in as many meets.

Mattson gained All-New England honors for the sixth time in her career by placing fourth in the 500 in 1:14.96. That was 1.24 seconds better than her school record qualifying time and 2.23 seconds faster than the standard entering the season. It was the fourth time already this season that she's improved on the 500 record.

In the triple jump, Mattson finished 10th among 23 competitors with her distance of 37 feet, one inch replacing the mark she set at the 2017 Northeast-10 Championships (36'7.5") in the record book. That was good for fifth on the season's NE10 performance list.

In the men's 3,000, senior Dan Hergott (Wallingford, Conn./Xavier HS) earned All-New England honors by finishing eighth of 19 in 8:41.60.

Also representing Bentley in individual events were junior Michael Cannata (Orange, Conn./ Amity Regional HS) and freshman Derek Pittorino (Westborough/Westborough HS) in the mile. Cannata was 11th in 4:31.27 and Pittorino followed in 12th with a 4:40.60.

Next weekend, Bentley will be in action in meets at Boston University and MIT.
