Quartet of Falcons Earn All-New England Honors

HANOVER, N.H. – A quartet of Bentley University student-athletes, including multi-time honorees Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) and junior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS), earned All-New England accolades with their performances during the New England Outdoor Championships Friday at Dartmouth College.

Sihvonen, a senior, had the highest finish of any of the Falcons, placing fifth in the javelin with a throw of 198 feet, three inches. It was the fourth straight year the 2017 All-America collected All-New England honors in the event.

Mattson gained All-New England honors for the fifth time in her career by placing eighth in the long jump (18'0.25"). She also placed 11th in the 400 meters (57.88 seconds).

Senior Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) concluded his collegiate career by placing seventh in the 5,000 with his time of 14:53.22 bettering his previous best by 4.85 seconds. It also elevated him to fifth on Bentley's all-time list.

Also earning All-New England honors for the Falcons was sophomore Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/ Thornton Academy), with an eighth-place finish in the long jump (21'10.25"). Arnold was also 18th in the 200, finishing in 22.25 seconds.

Top 12 performances for Bentley were also turned in by sophomore Josh Gettings (Lowell, Mass./Lowell HS) and junior Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS). Gettings was 11th in the 400 hurdles (55.92) and Murphy 12th in the 10,000 with his 32:04.57 improving on his previous best by nearly 30 seconds and 12th best in program history.

The Bentley men finished the opening day in 15th place with seven points while the women's team stands in a tie for 21st.

The New Englands will conclude on Saturday.
