SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Competing in her hometown, junior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./ Smithfield HS) led the Bentley University women's track and field team during Saturday's Black and Gold Invitational at Bryant University, the Falcons' first meet of the outdoor season.

Mattson competed in three individual events and finished in the top ten in each. She was fifth of 28 in the 400 meters with her time of 57.81 seconds putting her number one on the early season Northeast-10 Conference performance list.

Mattson also posted a personal best 26.14 in the 200 and achieved a distance of 17'0.75" in the long jump. She was ninth in both events, competing in a field of 46 in the 200 and 28 in the long jump.

Mattson also helped Bentley to a time of 50.35 seconds in the 4x100 relay, fourth best in program history. That quartet also included senior Monica Levy (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun HS) and a pair of sophomores, Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton, Mass./Narragansett Reg. HS) and Chantel Lewis (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science & Math).

Freshman Abby Caulfeld (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS) and junior Tina Touri (Watertown, Mass,/Watertown HS) were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 800. Caulfield, in her first outdoor meet as a collegian, finished in 2:27.35 and Touri followed in 2:27.45, a personal best by nearly two seconds.

Three freshmen impressed with performances that elevated them into Bentley's all-time top ten in their respective events. Sydney Hurwitz (Newton, Mass./Newton North HS) posted the fifth best long jump in program history, finishing 15th of 28 in 16'6". Paige Konsko (Orefield, Pa./Parkland HS) threw the javelin 96'4", eighth best all-time, and Hayley Licata (Andover, Mass./Central Catholic HS) turned in a 17.43 in the 100 hurdles, good for number nine.

In the 1500, senior Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS) turned in the NE10's third best time, placing 17th of 55 in 4:56.00.

Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in the American International Invitational.
