Mattson Tabbed for All-Region Honors by the USTFCCA

WALTHAM, Mass. – Following a standout indoor season, Bentley University junior Steph Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) was named All-East Region in the long jump by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

It's the fourth All-Region accolade for Mattson, who was honored as a sophomore in the long jump indoors, the long jump outdoors and the 400 meters outdoors.

Mattson had a standout indoor season, breaking school records in five events, including the long jump where she cleared 18'8" during the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. Her other records were achieved in the 60 meters (8.04 seconds), the 200 (25.98 in December and the 25.96 in February), the 300 (41.57) and the 400 (57.83).

Mattson took the silver in the long jump at the Northeast-10 Championships and was also fourth in the 400 at the NE10's. During the New Englands, she placed sixth in the 400 meters after qualifying for the finals with a school-record 57.83.

The Falcons were slated to open the outdoor schedule Saturday at Bridgewater State, but with that meet now cancelled due to track conditions, the first outdoor competition is now the Bryant Invitational on Mar. 31.
