Mattson Runs to 4th in 400 at NE10 Championships

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – A day after setting a school record and finishing second in the long jump, Bentley University junior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) ran to fourth place in the 400 meters during the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships at Smith College.

Mattson posted a time of 58.77 seconds as she finished behind New Haven's Riley Knebes (56.60), Southern Connecticut State's Adriana Carrasco (57.85) and Stonehill's Krista Fernandes (58.25).

Mattson concluded the championships by helping Bentley finish sixth in the 4x400 relay in 4:10.50. That quartet also included junior Abby Forman (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland HS) and sophomores Kirsten Lebreux (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford HS) and Chantel Lewis (Bronx, N.Y./ Manhattan Center for Science and Math).

Bentley also scored in the 4x800, placing eighth with junior Tina Touri (Watertown/Watertown HS), senior Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS), sophomore Abbie Newman (Hanson/ Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS) and freshman Abby Caulfield (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS) turning in a time of 10:13.85.

Bartolotta and Newman recorded in top-ten finishes in the mile with Bartolotta eighth (5:24.13) and Newman tenth (5:27.68).

In the 3,000, sophomore Paige Fehskens (Wareham/Wareham HS) improved on her personal best by 6.93 seconds with a 10:45.05, good for 12th place.

As a team, Bentley amassed 18 points to finish tenth among a dozen teams. Stonehill College claimed the team championship with 165 points, 47 more than runner-up Southern Connecticut State.

Next Sunday, Bentley will compete in a Last Chance Meet at Boston University.
