Mattson Finishes 2nd in NE10 Long Jump with NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – With a distance of 18 feet, eight inches, Bentley University junior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) broke her own school record and finished second in the long jump during the opening day of the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships at Smith College.

Mattson, who set the previous record of 18'2.25" at the 2017 NE10 Championships, provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships with her record-breaking performance. She trailed only American International's Dana Bramble, who took first with a 19'2.75".

Also in the long jump, Bentley freshman Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS) improved on her PR by one-and-a-half inches with a 16'8.75", good for 14th place. Her afternoon also included a 9.59 PR in the 60 meter hurdles, which put her in 12th overall.

In the 60 meter dash, sophomore Dom Balzora-Rivera (Templeton/Narragansett Reg. HS) moved to third on Bentley's all-time list in the event with a PR of 8.19 seconds. She improved on her previous best by 0.06 seconds and placed 19th overall.

The championships conclude on Sunday.
