Mattson Leads Bentley During Reggie Poyau Memorial

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) ran to victory in the 400 meters and scored in three other events to lead the Falcon women's indoor track and field team during the Reggie Poyau Memorial at Brandeis University Saturday.

Mattson turned in the fourth fastest 400 posted in the Northeast-10 Conference this season while winning the event in 59.35 seconds. She reached the finish line 3.47 seconds ahead of junior teammate Abby Forman (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland HS), whose second-place time of 1:02.82 was a personal best.

Mattson was also third in the triple jump (34'9"), sixth of 34 in the 55 meters (7.69) and a member of the Falcons' 4x400 relay that placed second (4:24.65). Also running the relay were Forman and freshmen Abby Caulfield (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS) and Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton HS).

Hurwitz impressed in her second collegiate meet as she was also third in the long jump, with her 16'1.75" seventh best in program history, and sixth in the 55 hurdles (9.32).

Sophomore Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton/Narragansett Reg. HS) had a pair of fourth-place showings, in the 200 (28.32) and in the triple jump (33'4") where she trailed Mattson by 17 inches. Another fourth for the Falcons was turned in by junior Tina Touri (Watertown/Watertown HS) in the 800, with her 2:31.35 putting her sixth in the NE10 performance list.

Also scoring for the Falcons were sophomore Paige Fehskens (Wareham/Wareham HS) in the 3000 (5th, 11:22.22) and senior Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS) in the mile (6th, 5:45.10).

Bentley finished fourth among seven teams in the meet with 54 points with the Falcons trailing Southern Maine (152), Brandeis (99.5) and Regis (65).

Next Sunday, the Falcons will compete in the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard.
