BOSTON, Mass. – It was an impressive season debut for Bentley University junior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) as she broke two longstanding school records and posted a win in the long jump during the UMass-Boston Indoor Open Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

In her first competition of the year, Mattson was third of 78 in the 60 meters, posting times of 8.09 seconds in the prelims and 8.04 in the finals. The latter bettered the Bentley record of 8.07 that Kristen Godfrey had achieved on the same track in 2002.

Mattson also took third, in a field of 93, in the 200 with her 25.98 smashing the mark that Colleen Judge had owned since 1995 by 0.43 seconds. It became her eighth indoor Bentley record, including at every distance from 60 to 600.

Mattson finished first in the long jump with her leap of 17 feet, 11.75 inches giving her a winning margin of 3.5 inches. Her afternoon also included helping Bentley finish fifth of 12 in the 4x400 relay in 4:15.89. That quartet also included junior Abby Forman (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland HS), sophomore Kirsten Lebreux (Biddeford, Maine/ Biddeford HS) and freshman Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS).

Sophomore Paige Fehskens (Wareham/Wareham HS) had Bentley's only second-place finish while competing among 23 in the 3,000. She finished in 10:56.48.

Bentley had three of the top 11 in the mile with senior Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS) leading the way. She was third of 34 in 5:24.32, 5.33 seconds off the winning pace. Junior Tina Touri (Watertown/Watertown HS) was sixth with her 5:27.72 a new personal best by more than 26 seconds, and sophomore Abbie Newman (Hanson/Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS) was 11th in 5:39.52.

Sophomore Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton/Narragansett Reg. HS) was third of 13 in the triple jump (34'5.5") and classmate Kaileigh Wimert (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) was fifth of ten in the 5,000 (19:22.39, a PR by 1.51 seconds).

Hurwitz, in addition to running the relay, was eighth of long jump (15'9.75") and 12th of 39 in the 60 hurdles (10.13) in her collegiate debut. Her performance in the long jump put her in a tie for seventh on the program's all-time list.

In the 400, Forman finished seventh of 20 with a 1:03.52.

Bentley's next competition will be after exams and the holidays, Jan. 13 in the Reggie Poyau Invitational.
