4 Members of Bentley Outdoor Track & Field Team Earn All-Region Honors from USTFCCCA
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University sophomore Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./ Smithfield HS) and three members of the Falcons' men's track and field team have received All-East Region accolades from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their performance during the 2017 outdoor season.
Joining Mattson on the All-Region list were junior Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) and seniors Erik Alatalo (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) and Tim Bolick (Hopkinton/ Hopkinton HS).
Mattson was a double-honoree, garnering the recognition in both the 400 meters and the long jump. She had the region's best long jump of the spring, clearing 18'8.75" at Stonehill April 29, and had the fourth-best 400 meter time, 55.93 seconds at last weekend's New Englands. Mattson, a three-time All-New England performer outdoors, also was tied for the region's sixth-best triple jump (37'5.25"), missing All-Region honors in that event by only six inches. Each of the three marks mentioned were school record-setting performances.
Mattson was also an All-Region selection indoors in the long jump.
Sihvonen, who'll be competing in the NCAA Division II Championships in Bradenton, Fla. next week, received All-Region recognition for the third straight year after a school record throw of 214'10" at the Bryant Invitational April 1. The number three finisher in both the Northeast-10 Championships and the New Englands, he is currently 12th on the Division II performance list in the event.
Bolick earned his All-Region nod for his performance in the 800 meters at the New Englands with his 1:51.68 third best in the region in 2017 and second best in Bentley history.
Alatalo turned in the region's fifth-best 10,000-meter clocking April 15 at Connecticut College's Silfen Invitational, 31:50.48. That time elevated him to eighth on Bentley's all-time list.
To be named All-Region, an athlete must have been ranked in the top-five of an individual event in the region or part of a top-three relay team.
