Mattson & Morena Lead Bentley During Day 2 of Northeast-10 Championships

EASTON, Mass. – Day two of the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships saw a pair of Bentley University Falcons post fourth-place finishes, senior Julia Morena (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) in the 5000 meters and sophomore Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) in the 400.

Competing at Stonehill College's W.B. Mason Stadium, Morena covered the 5,000 in 17:49.76, which bettered her previous career best of 7.45 seconds.  That time of 17:57.21 was achieved at the 2016 conference championships when she finished fifth.

Mattson, who was fourth in the long jump on Saturday, matched that in the 400 with her time of 57.09 seconds just one-hundredth of a second off the school record she set earlier in the season.

Mattson did break her third outdoor record of the season, turning in a 37'5.25" distance in the triple jump while finishing fifth among 20 competitors. It improved on her PR by 6.75 inches and  bettered the mark of 37'4.5" Keisha Johnson set at the 2013 New Englands.

Mattson, who also helped Bentley achieve the second fastest 4x100 time in program history (49.88), accounted for 14 of the Falcons' 21 points in the meet. The relay, which finished ninth, also included junior Monica Levy (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun HS) and a pair of freshmen, Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton/ Narragansett Reg. HS) and Chantel Lewis (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science and Math).

Bentley, which finished 10th among the 12 teams, put up its highest point total in the outdoor championships since 2014 and improved on last year's total by 12 points.

Next weekend, Bentley will compete in the New England Championships at Williams College.
