Mattson Leads Bentley During Day 1 of Northeast-10 Championships

EASTON, Mass. –Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) had the highest finish for a member of the Bentley University women's track and field team during day one of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Saturday as the sophomore finishing fourth in the long jump.

Mattson, competing in a field of 17 at Stonehill College's WB Mason Stadium, jumped 17 feet, 9 inches. She finished seven-and-a-quarter inches back of the winner, New Haven's Roxanne Redwood.

Bentley's other day one points came in the 4x800 relay with the Falcons finishing seventh of 11 in 9:56.31, a time that ranks eighth in program history. Sophomore Tina Touri (Watertown/Watertown HS) ran the opening leg and was followed by junior Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS), freshman Abbie Newman (Hanson/Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS) and sophomore Steph Robinson (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS).

Freshman Kaileigh Wimert (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) just missed scoring as she was ninth of 23 in the 10,000 meters. Her time of 40:36.16 was sixth best in program history and a new personal best by more than a minute.

Bartolotta improved on her PR in the 1500 by 0.35 seconds while finishing 11th of 26 in 4:53.49. Newman also ran the 1500, with her 4:59.77 good for 21st place.

Freshman Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton/Narragansett Reg. HS) posted the fifth best 100 time in Bentley history with her 12.99 second effort the best by a Falcon since 2003. She placed 23rd of 29 overall.

Bentley totaled seven points and will enter Sunday's second and final day tied for tenth among 12 teams.
