Mattson Shines for Bentley at Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational with Another School Record

EASTON, Mass. – Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) has had an outstanding sophomore year for the Bentley University women's outdoor track and field team and her success continued Saturday with two of the best jumps in the Northeast-10 Conference this spring, including a school record in the long jump, and one of the best 200-meter times in program history.

Competing in the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational  at the W.B. Mason Stadium, Mattson finished third of 28 in the long jump, behind athletes from the University of Rhode Island and Boston College, with her distance of 18'7.75" breaking the school record she set earlier in the month at Connecticut College by three-quarters of an inch. While rewriting the Bentley record book for the third straight meet and the eighth time since January, she turned in the best long jump recorded by a NE10 student-athlete during the outdoor season.

In the triple jump, Mattson bettered her previous best by just over two feet with her 36'10.5" second best in program history and fourth best on the NE10 performance list. She placed seventh of 17 in the event.

Mattson moved to fifth on Bentley's all-time list in the 200 meters with her time of 26.18 seconds a personal best by 0.92 seconds and good for tenth, in a field of 39. Her meet also included helping the Falcons finish seventh in the 4x400 relay (4:13.05), including third among non-Division I quartets.

Although not evident in the results of a meet that included Boston College, Holy Cross, Bryant , Boston University and Rhode Island, the Falcons had a successful meet with Mattson's three new PR's among at least 17 recorded by coach Kevin Curtin's team.

In the 100 meters, freshman Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton/Narragansett Reg. HS) finished 16th of 34 in 13.19 seconds, a PR by 0.43 seconds and tied for the eighth fastest time in program history. She also tied her collegiate best in the triple jump with a leap of 32'9.75".

Junior Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS) finished in the top half in the 800 with a 2:22.89. She was 23rd of 48 overall with 17 of the 22 to cross ahead of her from Division I institutions.

As a team, Bentley totaled 12 points and was 11th among the 11 teams.

The Falcons will be right back at Stonehill Friday and Saturday for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships.
