Morena Runs to Victory in 3,000 Meters During Reggie Poyau Memorial

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University senior Julia Morena (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) earned the only first-place finish for the Falcon women's track and field team during Saturday's Reggie Poyau Memorial at Brandeis University's Gosman Center.

Morena captured the mile in 5:27.82, reaching the tape more than three seconds ahead of Wellesley College's Edie Sharon. Her time was the fifth best achieved in the Northeast-10 Conference so far this season. Also in the mile, freshman Abbie Newman (Hanson/Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS) was sixth in a 17-runner field with her time of 5:40.23 a new personal best.

Bentley, fifth of eight in the team standings, received seconds from sophomore Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) and junior Courtney Loughnane (Canton/Canton HS). Mattson was the runner-up in the long jump (16'8.75") and Loughnane was second across the line in the 5,000 (19:44.99).  Also in the 5,000, freshman Kaileigh Wimert (Falmouth/Falmouth HS) was third (21:15.84).

Mattson was also third in the triple jump (34'1.25") with freshman Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton/Narragansett Reg. HS) following in fourth (33'3.75"), 11th best in program history. Balzora-Rivert was also eighth in the 200 (28.31).

Sophomore Steph Robinson (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) was fifth in the 600 (1:51.34), senior Katie Burke (Braintree/Braintree HS) was sixth in the 3,000 (11:23.25) and junior Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS) ran to seventh in the 800 (2:34.10).

Bentley totaled 50 points in a meet won by the University of Southern Maine with 175.5 points.

Next Sunday, Bentley will compete in the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard.
