NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Bentley University sophomore Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) captured All-New England honors in the javelin by virtue of a fifth-place finish Friday afternoon during the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.

A week after winning the Northeast-10 championship, Sihvonen finished in the top 20 percent of a 23-man competition with a throw of 192 feet, seven inches. Heading into the finals, he stood in fourth place.

Freshman Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) continued her strong rookie season by achieving new personal bests in both the long jump and the 400 meters.

In the former, Mattson cleared 17'9.25" to finish tenth overall, out of 22 participants, and second among Division II student-athletes. Her distance, a PR by four inches, was the best by a Falcon since 1992 and second best in program history.

Mattson was also 23rd of 30 in the 400 meters with her time of 58.79 third best among Division II competitors and third best in Bentley history. It improved on her previous best by 0.59 seconds.

Bentley's other participant on Friday was sophomore Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./ Randolph HS) in the 5,000. He was 21st of 29 overall with his time of 15:32.67 third best among Division II runners.
