Mattson Shines for Bentley at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Bentley University freshman Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./ Smithfield HS) turned in a pair of top four finishes to lead the Falcon women's outdoor track and field team during the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College Saturday.

Competing in the triple jump for the first time during the outdoor season, Mattson was second in a field of 22, her distance of 34'7.75" fourth best in program history and number ten on the season's Northeast-10 Conference performance list.

Mattson was also fourth of 33 in the long jump, improving on her previous best by three inches with a jump of 17'5.25". That was the second best posted in the NE-10 this season and third best on Bentley's all-time list. Her afternoon also included running the 100 meters in 13.45 seconds, good for 20th among 44 competitors.

Sophomore Courtney Wilson (Morrisonville, N.Y./Beekmantown Central HS) achieved a pair of personal bests while finishing 13th of 33 in the long jump (15'11.75") and 17th of 25 in the javelin (87'6.75"). She bettered her existing PR in the former by an inch-and-a-half and her javelin best by more than eight feet.

Two other Bentley sophomores finished in the top half of their respective events.  Sydney Kito (Aquebogue, N.Y./Riverhead HS) was 15th of 33 in the 400 (1:05.29), and Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS) was 27th of 62 in the 800, with her 2:26.97 a new PR.

On Friday, senior Samantha Albanese (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield HS) ran the fourth fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time in the NE-10 this season, placing seventh overall in 12:14.35.

Bentley totaled 16 points in the meet to finish 15th among 19 teams.

This coming week, Bentley will compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton Friday and the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT next Saturday.
