Mattson Impresses During GBTC Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Bentley University freshman Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./ Smithfield HS) continued the strong start to her collegiate career while competing for the Falcon women's indoor track team Sunday in the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard University.

Mattson ran to victory in the 400 meters with her time of 1:01.41 besting the 1:02.23 recorded by Nikki Merrill of the Portsmouth Track Club by 0.82 seconds. Stephanie Robinson (Randolph, N.J./ Randolph HS), another Bentley freshman, was third in the 11-runner field with her 1:05.41 a personal best.

Mattson was also second of 16 in the long jump (16'5") and third of seven in the triple jump, clearing 35 feet, 2 inches. That triple jump effort was good for fourth on Bentley's all-time list as well as sixth on this season's Northeast-10 Conference performance list.

Bentley sophomore Courtney Wilson (Morrisonville, N.Y./Beekmantown Central HS) also performed well in the jumps, placing fourth in the triple (33'9.25") and sixth in the long (15'5"). The former improved on her PR by eight inches while putting her eighth in program history and 11th on the NE-10 list.

Falcon freshman Abby Forman (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland HS) and sophomore teammate Sydney Kito (Aquebogue, N.Y./Riverhead HS) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the seldom-run 300 meters. Forman's 46.57 was tenth best in Bentley history and third among the seven competitors. Kito followed in fourth with a 47.09.

The top ten in the mile included junior Julia  Morena (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) and senior Anna Pickett (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland HS), both of whom improved on their previous bests. Morena was fifth of 20 with a 5:21.89 and Pickett followed in tenth (5:42.74).

In the 1000 meters, sophomore Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS) improved on her PR by 5.85 seconds as she was seventh of 19 in 3:16.36.

Bentley had two top four finishers in the 60 meter hurdles with senior captain Olyvia Leahy (New Bedford/New Bedford HS)  third of eight (10.46) and sophomore Monica Levy (Merrick, N.Y./ Calhoun HS) fourth (10.87).

On Friday, Bentley will be at Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
